‘Spiking’ someone’s drink is putting a substance into their drink without them knowing about it in order to do that person harm in some way and/or to take advantage of them…
There are a number of reasons why people spike drinks – including sexual assault, rape, theft, assault or for their own amusement. The media have reported that drink spiking in on the rise in the UK.
Drink spiking is illegal and if a person is found guilty of spiking a drink they can face a significant penalty. The act is illegal even if no assault or harm comes to the person whose drink has been spiked.
Spiking is something that everyone should be aware of. It’s important to find out how to reduce the risk of becoming a victim. Drink spiking can be very dangerous for the person drinking the spiked drink.
