What is it?
Spiking is when a drug or even alcohol is added to your drink without your knowing. You would then be drugged or drunk without being aware of it or even how it happened.
Effects
You could end up unconscious, unable to defend yourself and even have no memory of what happened.
What drugs?
Some common spiking drugs are GHB, ketamine and flunitrazepan (Rohypnol) but the most common is ALCOHOL!
Alcohol
More rapes involve alcohol than any other drug. In large doses, alcohol will sedate and cause loss of memory, and victims usually drink it willingly. In addition alcohol increases the effect of most other sedative drugs.
Rohypnol
The sedative effects of Rohypnol and similar types of drug begin to have a sedative (sleepy) effect after about 20 minutes. The effects can last 4-6 hours. During this time this drug can incapacitate you and prevent you from resisting sexual assault. You would probably have amnesia which means that you may not remember events you experienced while under the effects of the drug.
This drug can now be detected for at least five days in a victim’s urine and up to a month in a sample of the victim’s hair.
GHB
GHB has effects very similar to alcohol. GHB is invisible when dissolved in a liquid and has no smell. It has a very slight salty taste but you would not notice it in a drink.
