What should I know about downloading information?
Be really careful when downloading info from the internet – files, music or attachments to emails….
It’s possible to download all sorts of information, programs, and music from the Internet. After you have your parent/guardian’s permission to download something, be sure that you know exactly what you are downloading and where the download is from, before you do it. If you don’t know who is sending you the information or don’t think you know enough about the website offering the file or information, don’t download it because it may have a virus, which can damage the computer.
Stay away from illegal music file swapping websites too – using them risks getting your internet service cut off by your internet provider as well as being sued by a music company. Check out FrankandHonest.com’s Downloading Music page for more info.
- If you accidentally begin downloading something, push the “Stop” button at the top of your browser screen. This will stop the download from completing and will cancel the process.
- Make sure you have an updated version of virus protection and anti-spyware software on your computer. Links to free stuff are on this site under Internet Security.
