If you are homeless or think you may become homeless, contact your local council to seek advice on what is available to support you in your area. Council have a duty by law to assist people who claim they are homeless or who are likely to become homeless within 28 days.
There are also a number of support agencies out there that specialise in providing information as well as practical support – including accommodation – to people who find themselves homeless.
If you do not feel your needs are being dealt with appropriately by the local council, seek out support elsewhere – don’t put up with living on the street or the prospect of living on the street.
You will find lots of information about local housing services at your local council’s website. You can also phone your local council’s main number and ask to be put through to the housing service team. Many councils have emergency housing numbers.
The voluntary organisation Shelter Cymru has an advice line and run local advice drop ins / surgeries throughout Wales. They can be contacted on 0845 075 5005 or you can contact them via their website at www.sheltercymru.org.uk
