Who doesn’t like to find a cheaper price for something they want or need to buy?
Price comparison websites and deal discussion forums can be really useful tools to saving money. But you have to remember, they are usually businesses themselves – more often than not, they are trying to make money from you too, so don’t assume they are impartial or on your side!
When shopping online, make sure you’re shopping at a legitimate site and remember the golden rule – if it looks too good to be true, it probably is. Always keep your wits about you on the internet and always proceed with caution. Check out Frank and Honest’s Staying Safe Online pages for some good advice.
Another golden rule is don’t spend money you haven’t got – debt is no fun. Saving and then getting the thing you’ve been saving for is a lot more rewarding than credit card companies would have you believe.
This page is not about spending frivolously, it’s about you finding the best price for a product or service.
That’s the sensible stuff out of the way… now let’s find some bargains!
There are a number of price comparison websites out there. Some of these show you lots of prices from different companies on one website and let you buy through the price comparison website – this is usually the case for services such as insurance. Other price comparison websites let you enter the name of the item you’re looking for then retrieve prices from lots of different companies and offer links to those websites.
Another type of website that can be good for bargain hunting is forum websites where people post about bargains and good deals they’ve found online.
One website about saving money that you can’t afford to miss – I know, poor pun – that offers loads of advice about finding good deals and saving money is moneysavingexpert.com They have loads of forums and lots of info on different services – from getting a mortgage, to 2-for-1 vouchers in restaurants, to the best insurance deals.
