The Blue Badge Scheme is there to support disabled people with certain transport needs.
Those eligible to have a blue badge can place it in the window of their cars and have free or reduced parking rates in some places, can park in parking bays for reserved for disabled people and are allowed to park in some other places that others can’t or for longer than other non badge holders. Having a Blue Badge also entitles the holder to concessions when using certain toll bridges and tunnels, including the Severn Bridge.
The Blue Badge scheme replaced the old Orange badge scheme in 2000. Badges are issued by Local Authorities Social Services Department. If you think you might be eligible for a blue badge, check the links below for more information and / or contact your local authority.
You should be able to get a badge if you are registered blind; have a permanent and substantial disability which means you are unable to walk or have considerable difficulty in walking; you receive the higher rate of the Mobility Component of Disability Living Allowance; you have a severe disability in both upper limbs, regularly drive a motor vehicle but cannot turn the steering wheel.
